2026 so far…
It has been a really busy but positive start to the year!
I have been continuing working in schools delivering music therapy, supporting children and young people through music in a way that feels engaging and helpful for them. I also continue my work with a cancer care charity, where music sessions have created space for people to connect and express themselves.
Musically I have been concentrating on adding to my own repertoire, writing play songs to use in group sessions that incorporate scarfs and other sensory items. I often get ideas during sessions or in the car, so I have got into the habit of recording melodies and lyrics into voice notes when ideas pop into my head! I have been working really hard on improving my ukulele skills too.
I am still teaching primary classroom music one day a week for Wigan Music Service. Even though it is a smaller part of my week, it is important to me to keep this going. It helps me stay connected to teaching and keeps my work fresh.
I am also looking forward to the end of April, when I will be running a full day of music therapy careers workshops in a secondary school. It’ll be a great chance to talk about this wonderful job and hopefully inspire some future music therapists!
